Episode 13: Mom Guilt: What It Is, Why It Exists, and How to Manage It?

The SHERO Effect

27-06-2024 • 36 Min.

What if I’m doing things wrong? What if my kids don’t turn out right? What if they grow to resent me? The list goes on and on and on. Did you feel these things? Raise your hand...my hand’s up too! The toughest job that ever existed…mom. We wear so many hats and master so many roles, and yet we are still humans. We want our children to be good people, contributing members of society, and, above all, happy.

We often feel guilty for getting angry, saying the wrong thing, comparing ourselves to other parents and families, and falling victim to financial comparison. Symptoms of mom guilt are usually second guessing your decisions, dwelling on mistakes, and always feeling like you’re doing something wrong.

It may be hard, but it is so important to take time to validate your child’s feelings, ask for forgiveness when you need to, ask for help and support, stop comparing your children, and realize it’s okay to not have all the answers. As you look back on your time as a mother, you may have regrets. That's life. But you will have learned, and you will have grown. Give yourself grace; you try your best each day, and that’s what matters.

Today’s Affirmation and Self-Reflection:

I eliminate comparison from my thoughts. (Tune in for the expanded affirmation)

  1. When was the last time my eyes wandered into someone else's race?
  2. Why is it important for me to only measure myself against my own standards?
  3. How is comparison detrimental to my mind?
