Lorecast Episode 9 - Draconic Measures

Lorecast Episode 9 - Draconic Measures
In the early years of the world, and where our adventure story begins in the lands of Erivone, there is a distinct absence of some of the larger animals, beasts, and monsters. Indeed it was often noted that due to the arrival of great Orc tribes, the Elven Rangers of the northern forests, and due to the magics of Erivone itself, Monsters indeed did not have a great many places to lay their roost, nests and claim. However around the year 800 AC, Dragons began to return to this part of the world, slowly at first, after monster hunters had either died down, the remaining roaming bands decided to retreat to their own borders. You see, killing for sport does not typically last for more than a few generations, where the younglings of towns and cities are taught about care and respect of nature. It is harder when their own forefathers burned forests and hunted those occupants to make their own home, after all.No, once the real monsters of world took up those regular roles in society, as tavern masters, blacksmiths and town guards, so too could the titans and giants of the world roam more freely, and so they did.Dragons descended far from the north, and begun to roost in the Yagleback Mountains, or the Lamplight Swamps, each to their own, Eventually the most cunning of Dragons would choose to weave their natural magics, to change form, and take that of the lesser people of civilization; for one very simple purpose. You see, Dragons have a long memory. And a great many of them had lost members of their own bloodline due to those hunters and craftsmen. And so it is that we discover and learn more, about the Dragons of Solsheim.Harsh and impactful, suspicious and wise, we first turn our attention to the Green Dragons. Those who would prowl deep damn forest spaces, jungles, swamps and more. The more covered and treacherous to the humanoids the better. If they could hide often in plane site, or even cave dwellings within, it would often be too late for an unsuspecting adventurer or ranger.Noxious fumes and wicked teeth would be the end of those unprepared for such a torment. The Dragon herself would not see the named and formerly brave adventurer, they would see their descendents. The one who would rip the teeth from the beloved jaws, and sell them as prizes. Grind them down to magical materials, and rip open their already broken bodies, to remove broken hearts. Such is the rage of a Green dragon, and so too is the memory a power for vengeance, they return to the Swamps of Ga’ma and the  Southern parts of the world. The Greens were more cunning though, as when parties of many people arrived, always 1 was let go, in the hopes of ensuring even more victims to the Dragons belly. This does not mean, however, that all Dragons are vengeful creatures. However vengeance can often be forgotten for a form of justice. This is where the Silver Dragons come in. Generally speaking amongst those who know the entomology of the Dragons, the Silverkin are far more on the side of justice, righteousness, and fairness. They themselves are often revered and idolized by the protecting peoples; the Paladins and Clerics, who align their goals to serve the greater purpose. To slay a Silver Dragon is to commit a most heinous crime, punishable by 1000 deaths, or to take 100,000 paces on the Dust Road. However a Silverkin is no less cunning than a Green Dragon, but it does not attack unannounced.A Silverkin, likes to play at being a human, an elf, dwarf, .. a humanic kind, and hides in plain sight. By copying the mannerisms of those around him, the Silverkin gets to see the worst that the world has to offer.A beggar pleiades for alms for food? And this hand is batted away? And then roughed up for dare approaching a bolt and gallous sir knight?Perhaps a stableboy looking to hold a horse whilst a Mercenary Captain dismounts, and a boot meets his braces. These are the things a Silver sees, and often seeks justice against those would harm the poor. They look for the Monster in Mankind, and when they have discovered them, it is too late for apology. When their own ancestors have been slain by the likes of these bullies, how else can one grow, when they have been taught to hate? There are many kinds of dragons that have since returned. We have even learned of those half-developed from Dragons, the Wyvern, and the one who had resided beneath Obaeron’s great well, and the great hoard that there awaited it as praise and tribute. What becomes of that hoard now, I wonder? However the most dangerous Dragon kind of all, hidden yet proud, trackable yet unkillable, is the Roxicor the Red. Upon returning to Erivone, Roxicor and his family of Crimson Reds descended on the higher up places of the world, in an attempt to establish themselves as the masters and leaders of all. To demand treasure and tribute, and no longer to be hunted. To attack one of the Crimson-kin is to bring death and destruction upon your entire village. To have Roxicor identify you, or worse as one of your descendants who may have caused harm to the Red, is to have the same fate.So too, with the return of Dragons to the world, it leaves many questions to be asked. What has caused them to return, now?Who will stand up to these beats? But surely if we leave them alone, they will only take those from us what deserves to go?And how is it you will leave them be, when you may have not done anything, but your great, great, great grandfather had?For surely there are not an infinite amount of places a Dragon can hide, or roost, or raise its own, without being seen? And not too many high places, not to be defended?Haggis and Dragons RPG is a Haggis and Dragons ProductionYou can find more information about us on our websiteHaggisandDragons.comOur Twitter: @HaggisDragonsOur Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/haggisanddragons/Our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/haggisanddragons/Songs Used Autumn Walk by Alexander NakaradaLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/7434-autumn-walkLicense: https://filmmusic.io/standard-licenseMystery Palace by Alexander NakaradaLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/7257-mystery-palaceLicense: https://filmmusic.io/standard-licenseShelter Song by Alexander NakaradaLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/6926-shelter-songLicense: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
Our Story So Far

Our Story So Far
TRANSCRIPT: Hi there, it’s Paddy here, and I wanted to take the opportunity of borrowing your ears, and giving you all a bit of an update, this isnt a podcast episode per se, but this is something we wanted to put together, on how things have been for us in 2020 especially, and what we have for you over this year! We’re really excited, and look forward to giving you more entertainment, and even more facepalms.First off a HUGE thank you to everyone who has joined us since our inception in October 2019.From then until now, and as of this recording, in January 2021, we have completed the recording and published all episodes of the first Season of our DND Live play podcast. At the beginning of 2020, we felt we started the year strong. There was a fantastic community event at PodUK in February, the release of new content. But all that stopped, due to the global pandemic. Which hit us all hard. A lot of the things that we list below we’d define as achievements, as well as aspirations for the coming year, that are in no way reflective of our mindsets and mutual struggles throughout 2020.Never before have we seen the world grind to a halt, and see so many dangerous and uncertain times, where our priorities became our loved ones, families, friends and supporters with content creation at the back of our minds. We recognize the importance of having an outlet though, feeling a connection in an isolated world. Living in times with so few distractions from real-life issues, even as content creators we became reliant on other podcasts to help us get through, and we understood our duty to contribute to this well needed respite for our fans. Our motivation has always been to entertain, and to connect with all of you across social media, digital services and audio podcast platforms. In 2020. Whilst we have generated some material during this time, it’s a lot less than we had originally planned for. The forefront of our minds we’re to keep ourselves and families healthy and supported. It was a real struggle to be in the right frame of mind to deliver content but with your help and understanding, we are in a position to deliver everything and more that we hoped for last year. We are here for you.Not long after our inception we incorporated ourselves into Haggis and Dragons Productions. Which not only focuses on narrative driven TTRPG but allows us to set foot further into creating content in other ways. We first started by putting together scripted storytelling narrated by myself in our Lorecast series. This dives deep into the world of the Live Play podcast. It’s also gave us the opportunity to work at one of our biggest passions, Audio Drama. This is where we are today and what we have planned is exciting and ground breaking for us all and we hope you can follow us on this journey. Here is a breakdown of the projects we are currently working on this year. First off, The Haggis and Dragons RPG Campaign season 2! We were able to record the first episode before the pandemic hit. We potentially looked at continuing this online, but with technical issues, we have opted to wait until the pandemic is over. However here is a quick snippet of what’s to come. *30 second clip from the first sessions of Season 2*Krusk, Bjorg, Ivor and Harald, continue to be a source of entertainment, with some interesting developments. I wont spoil it for anyone who has not yet caught up, and if you were waiting for Season 1 to finish before engaging full on binge mode, please feel free to revisit, as Season 1 is 26 Episodes long lasting over 1000 minutes of content recorded over the space of a year. We are in the process of not just remastering the first season, but creating a whole new soundscape of every episode to create a more immersive experience for the listener. The production of this will be streamed over on our Twitch channel, alongside the new content we will discuss in a moment. So yes! TWITCH! This is a new venture for us, something we didn’t initially plan on implementing at this point, but with global circumstances, this seems to be a fantastic way that we as a team can engage with yourselves in a live setting. A huge thank you to our friends and supporters who have helped us with the platform, and start to deliver some nice online gaming sessions, such as Gloomhaven Digital and we’re HUGELY excited to be journeying through Ravenloft, as we play the Curse of Strahd! This will also be available on our YouTube not long after the stream.Another Project we will continue to develop and evolve is the Lorecasts. We will also be working with guest narrators to cover everything from the politics, history, natural beings, gods, heroes and villains, and even a graveyard. We will also continue to put polls out on twitter with suggestions for you to vote on. Please feel free to ping me at HaggisPaddy on twitter, and i’ll happily take requests. We’re REALLY excited to be introducing you to our biggest project to date. The Supernatural Horror podcast; The Secret of St Kilda.Created by Ross and Michael and written by Naomi, they have made something original, compelling, and soul stirring.Check out the trailer on Youtube, which in my own humble opinion is just fantastic. It sets the scene wonderfully, for the Scottish isles of St Kilda, and what happens when our desperate protagonist runs to the end of the world. Sounds peaceful, doesn't it? We have started a Patreon too, which is the best way to support us, we have exclusive content that we upload regularly such as the fabled episode zero from our RPG game in which the player characters meet for the first time. Production content such as scripts for Lorecast and Episode notes and even early release of episodes! Thats patreon.com/haggisanddragons.The Wee Natter Season 2 will be recording over the next few months, this will interviews with all your favourite creators conducted by myself, Ross and Michael. Finally, i’m excited to be taking part in some fantastic collaborations, interviews and meetings with fellow podcasters, dungeons and dragons players, twitch streamers and more. As you can see, its always worthwhile doing this update, and I hope you’ve heard something thats useful. We are still very much here to have fun, and we’ll continue to develop new ways of reaching out, engaging, gaming, and ultimately sharing experiences.Thank you, and a final wish from me. Its a very challenging time out there at the moment, and we are very definitely missing sharing a table with each other. We hope we can keep you entertained, and connected with this amazing community of creators, podcasters, supports and friends. We look forward to speaking with you all. From all of us at Haggis and Dragons Productions, slainte mvath, best of health, and thank you.HaggisandDragons.comyoutube.com/mickallisterpatreon.com/haggisanddragonstwitter: @haggispaddy @haggisdragonsMusicCinematic Suspense Series Episode 006 by Sascha EndeLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/6308-cinematic-suspense-series-episode-006License: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Lorecast Episode 8 - There's Always a Bigger Fish

Lorecast Episode 8 - There's Always a Bigger Fish
The sealife in our world is just as vast as the land creatures. We have the Kelpie a shape shifting aquatic horse. Stunning, Nimble and majestical.  It still fears the Buleacuhk.  This phenomenal beast is the king of the oceans, the apex predator, yet it dare not go near the reef that breathes. The glistening waves of Porta Rossa lash against the boats and barges as they dock along the harbourside, where the bards rock and roll the people in port, the seas rocks the boats. From the foaming white waves and the golden sands and deep brown mud and dirt, the glorious spectrum of where the sea meets the land brings with it life, trade and the attention of another kind. The circle of life that exists below the waves in the bay, and deep into the oceans beyond,  understand 1 thing - there’s always a bigger fish. The deep blue contain all manners of things looking for food, attention, and even treasure for their own horde.Let’s start small, with the introduction to the Kelpie,A Kelpie in its truest natural form, is that of a large aquatic horse. Seawood adorned hair, deep glazed over black eyes, and a fine dolphin beaked nose. The tail of the beast certainly far more fin than hair, and still measured in hands, though what sailor would ever want to try and measure this mischievous wave rider.?The Kelpie itself is a shape changer, and often takes the form of a stranded passenger, designed to lure travellers, silently to dash themselves upon rocks, and be dragged down to the deep. Similar to the siren of the sea, yet this horse does not sing nor speak, the silence of the depths, echoes in the Kelpie..Kelpies themselves are treasured amongst pirate vessels and deep water ships, for strapping one, whilst it lives, to the bow of your ship, is said to be enough of a deterrent to keep the bold and dangerous sharps and giant octopus at bay. Within their natural environment, there are few things more nimble, more cunning and more deceptive than the  Kelpie. And the way it defends itself, save for great haste? Is the foul odour of boiled seaweed. More than enough for any shark to be put off the scent of blood, and many a well trained mariner can smell one off for miles if it is hunted. And as they know, when the scent hits their noses, pirate and kelpie recognize,, there is always a bigger fish. The one thing the Kelpie fears above all overs,, is the Buleuachk .In ancient myths, the Buleuachk lay at the bottom of the sea bed for years, snaffling unaware bottom dwelling sharks and crustaceans, and the odd bumbling wizard casting a water breathing spell Throughout their development and evolution, sprouted fins, and then legs and jaws. A naturally athletic and dangerous swimmer at incredible depths, able to breathe both air AND water, the Buleuachk hunts, with 4 menacing eyes, a flat frog like bridged nose, and huge sharp spines up its’ bac, all deep of colour, giving it a cruel advantage in natural camouflage.Where the waters lie still, like a sea of fallen stars, and no ripple or parting of wave or air bubble, there ascends quick and sudden death to the kelpie, lying hidden in long reed grass of embankments by shorelines, all too late to react. The Buleacuhk stretches 20 feet long from head to tail, and hunts in pairs, able to cover immense bodies and through the quivering fins,  identify the tensions in the reeds and shallow water. Where sits the kelpie awaiting a small boat, being waited upon, by a devastating near-invisible predator. And still, even then, there’s always a bigger fish. Finally, in our story tonight we come to that creature which devours Kelpies and Buleuachk , Squid and SharkWhat hunts a 20foot long spined bipedal hunter in darkness? What then is large enough and fast enough, that a Buleacuhk pair swim away, rather than take down together? To say that this creatures hunts, is perhaps a misconception. The Buleacuhk  knows to stay away from its waters. For if you dive off northern coast of Fastaghad, you will find the island itself has no beaches. The grasslands simply stop, and the next step you take, into the water although it may seem peaceful, will drop you down several hundred feet before you make contact with the oceafloor.Several hundred metres off this coast, sits a large well preserved coral. The coral home to a great many smaller fish, which flash and daze with colour should any surface light reach, and spiny anemones keep pike and other smaller hunting fish away from the gentle cleaners and population of the reef. The reef itself if you looked hard enough would appear white and grey, red and blue, be speckled with spores and holes. Yet it would trick the most honest fisherman into things jewels of sapphire and ruby were calling to it. Dragon Turtles had once said to try and burrow next to the reef, but there is a reason why none venture here, and there is a reason none remove these jewels of the sea.You see the reef itself protects all lesser life, and whether its a boat, Buleacuhk , dragon turtle or leviathan, the reef is protected so long as it breathes. The reef doesn't actually sit on the sea bed, it floats almost 20 feet from the ocean floor.Magic? Nature? Not enough is known about Coral Rock, save that the Buleacuhk  never go there. If a kelpie or a pirate ship with its shark deterrent sail near those waters and are harassed by canon ball and musket, with the threat of having their own loot and treasure tumble into the sea, the Buleacuhk  turn around.Whether the ships makes it home? Well, that’s merely a bed time story told by those who are ill prepared for adventures on the seaOther sailors even say its the soul of a long lost merchant captain who once tried to remove the jewels and gems from the reef, and did not not make it home. The hate and terror of the captain said to turn the reef into a magical barrier to what it actually contains. Then again, what do you think?Would the Buleacuhk  be afraid of a reef? That breathes? And the most astounding thing?Well, as you know, as the stories go..There’s always a bigger fish.. Music used: Evening Fall (Harp) by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3720-evening-fall-harp-License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Skye Cuillin by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/4371-skye-cuillinLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Unnatural Situation by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/4567-unnatural-situationLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Dark Times by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3611-dark-timesLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
