Episode 161: How To Silence Your Inner Critic
For many years, I tried to get fit and healthy but would always find myself back at square one. I tried everything – I calorie counted, I dieted, I weighed my food, I weighed myself, I joined slimming clubs, I joined the gym – it didn’t matter. No matter what I did, I always managed to go back to square one. One day, I saw an ad in a newspaper, and I thought, 'I know this is going to be the answer to my problems.'  It is to train as a fitness and nutrition coach. So, I did the course, I got healthy, and I started to feel really good.  I started to feel great in my clothes, my relationships improved, and the frustrated feelings I had inside of myself left. The course wasn’t even over three weeks, and all my old habits started to creep back in. By chance, I bumped into one of my former coaches, and we went for coffee. I told him how desperate I felt, that I was beginning to go right back to square one. He said something to me that I’ll never forget. He said, 'Jessica, I’ve never met somebody that’s so hard on themselves. Think of it like the foundations of a house – the house will always crumble if you don’t have the foundations in place. Your lack of self-love is stopping you from getting where you want to be.' And so, I went on my journey of transformation. This is a transformation I want to share with you in today’s episode.
