The sustainment warfighting function is integrally linked to operations and essential to maintaining combat power, enabling operational reach, generating freedom of action, and providing Army forces with endurance to fight and win across the breadth and depth of the battlefield.  And yet commanders and planners often fail to integrate the sustainment warfighting function into the MDMP process.
