There is no doubt that climate change is reshaping our world; the World Bank predicted that by 2050, more than 140 million people in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin America will be displaced within their home countries due to climate change!
In this episode, Dr. Sarra Touzi tells us about how climate change contributes to and exacerbates factors in migration.
Dr. Sarra Touzi has more than 20 years of experience in integrated natural resources management, climate resilience and multi-stakeholders dialogues facilitation. She successfully led the development and overall management of several projects in the MENA region, both at national and regional scales.
She has also led and contributed to technical assessments in various topics related to water security, climate vulnerability evaluation, adaptation action planning, climate funds mobilization, and institutional enhancement, supporting countries to accelerate their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recently, Sarra contributed to the water security nexus project in North Africa, aiming to catalyze regional coordination around climate change, resilience and migration. In addition, she conducted the water-climate-migration assessment in two pilot cases in Tunisia and contributed to the regional dialogue.
Sarra is a hydraulic and rural engineer. She holds an MSc in water science and a PhD in management sciences, focusing on private sector participation and trade-offs of efficiency and equity in water services.
