Almost two years ago, we got to interview Josh’s high school German teacher, Christine, about her experiences moving to the U.S., teaching German in an American school and raising a family in Cincinnati. This week’s episode is almost the sister episode (or perhaps it’s more appropriate to say daughter episode) to that as we had the chance to chat with Christine’s daughter Lena. She grew up in Cincinnati in a German family and only recently moved to Berlin - her first experience living outside of Ohio. We had a great time chatting with her and learning about what it was like to grow up in the suburbs speaking a language other than English at home, if she feels more German or American, what German things she grew up with in the American Midwest and what her experience has been like moving back to her parents’ country of birth! We hope you all enjoy this episode and let us know if you can relate to any of Lena’s experiences!
